Yokoso! All Nippon Airways (ANA) to Offer Daily Connection between Düsseldorf and Tokyo Starting March 30

Yokoso, a warm welcome! With the start of its summer schedule, Düsseldorf Airport (DUS) offers its customers another attractivelong-haul connection. All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan’s largestairline, will fly nonstop daily between DUS and Narita (NRT), theTokyo hub. This new schedule from the Star-Alliance airline enhances the long-haul offerings from North Rhine-Westphalia’s(NRW) largest airport. These new flights also offer options for optimum connections within Germany and Europe with partner airlines Lufthansa and Swiss and Austrian Airlines for outbound and inbound passengers.

The new flights also mean the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner will land in Düsseldorf for the first time. Boeing’s most modern airplaneis a twin-engine aircraft featuring a fuselage made mostly from carbon fiber-reinforced plastic. Considered exceptionally passenger-friendly, the Dreamliner also boasts lower keroseneconsumption and reduced noise emissions during take-off and landing.

“We are excited about another direct connection between Japanand Düsseldorf after 23 years. This route will benefit our region greatly, because 10,000 Japanese live in North Rhine Westphalia, and among them 6,500 in Düsseldorf alone,” explains DUS CEOThomas Schnalke. “A tradition of strong economic ties between both markets already exists, and the new ANA service alsoreflects our airport’s appeal for long-haul connections to Asia.”

Trading volume between Japan and NRW was at eight million euros in 2012. More than 500 Japanese companies are located in NRW, 421 of them in Düsseldorf and its region. World-renowned brands, such as Fujifilm, Mazda, Toyota, Nissan, Toshiba, Canon,Sony, NEC and Yamaha, are some of the region’s major employers.

More than 50,000 people traveled to Japan from DUS’ catchmentarea – up until now mostly via Paris, London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt or Munich. With the start of the new route in March, ANA will stop operating its shuttle bus to Frankfurt Airport (FRA).
